Let's Try This Again: Dada Strain x Present Sounds x HxH, Thurs. July 13th @ Greenpoint Loft

Dada Strain's second live show presentation is a collaboration with the "intimate listening" series, Present Sounds, and features HxH, the electro-acoustic duo of Lester St. Louis and Chris Williams

This week’s rescheduled Present Sounds x Dada Strain show is a go. Here’s a quick recap of what you can expect and where, as well as a discount code for Dada Strain readers and subscribers.

Dada Strain is teaming up with the “listening” series Present Sounds, to present its second live show, this Thursday, July 13th — this one by the electro-acoustic duo HxH, which features Lester St. Louis and Chris Williams. Chris is a trumpeter and Lester is a cellist, and both are incredible musicians who are Bklyn Sounds regulars, playing with many of the borough’s great “jazz,” hip-hop, experimental and classical musicians. But as HxH, Chris and Lester make an improvised computer music, incorporating and manipulating their instruments into a rhythm-and-drone synthesis. (If you want to check out what HxH do, they played live on Will Shore’s The Lot Radio show in November 2022.) On this night, HxH will play two sets, and I’ll spin some like-minded records before, between, and after.

Present Sounds is a deep listening series that takes place every Thursday at the Light and Sound Design studio. Other Present Sounds hosts include Camilla Padgitt-Coles, Ka Baird, Loum and Jared Proudfoot of Piquenique Recordings. Light and Sound Design is a private Greenpoint loft, featuring a vintage 4-point Klipsch sound system, comfortable seating arrangements and a relaxed social environment. It’s in short walking distance from a G-train station. The exact location is shared with ticket holders in the confirmation email.

One of the reasons I wanted to do this show is how great the Light and Sound Design loft is, an absolutely perfect small space to listen and chill. I includes an outdoor space and other smart DIY amenities conducive to a great musicking environment. That’s one reason the evening begins at 6p. It’s a great place to unwind, small and comfortable; and to keep it as such, the audience is limited to 40-50 people. I truly can’t wait for y’all to check this spot out, or speak highly enough about it. So if you do want to come, please RSVP relatively quickly.
